The Trail Of Waitangi
Should I be involved with The Treaty of Waitangi?
Some people at times wish to be involved with 'helping' in the Treaty cause. However 'involvement' in any of the 'issues' that have been created through the Treaty, rather than stopping them, actually keeps the issue going, so at the end of the day the situation is no better off.
Just like the 'falling star' concept, all the fuss is around looking at the falling (supposed) star because it is out of order, and likewise, if we look at the issues or arguments around the Treaty of Waitangi, they are about the things that are out of order.
If the issues are studied they are found to be nothing but political, religious, or tribal upmanship or challenges taking place, and when looking beyond all the emotional performances, you see very little (if any at all) real Love coming out of it.
Nothing is achieved by fighting politics with politics except for a trail of hurt and misguided people, and if politicking ever did have the answer (and it never will), there would of course, never have been an issue to start with. It is 'understanding' that will solve the issues, and not politics.
As for any any Maori / Pakeha differences, they should be forgotten about. Imagine if New Zealand today had only one race of people, wouldn't there be just the same type of government with with taxes and laws, inter tribal or denominational differences - wether it be Pakeha, Maori or whatever? Of course it would, so trying to use the past, a way of life, or skin colour for an excuse to create or further an issue is no valid argument.
There are also the old Maori Spiritual and other customs (which are no different than the European). You can't go back in time to get them. If it is an Eternal God that is being sought, then That would be more real for today, rather than trying to find Him in a past age, or is it the craving for the old worship of idols, like the images and gods of Roman mythology that is being sought?
If it comes to tribal claims, issues or grievances it pays to understand who is dealing with who, for it would appear that what happened when the Pakeha arrived was no more severe than what happened to any previous inhabitants of the country. Any claim should not single out the white man as the lone culprit.
There were unjust things that happened for sure, and maybe that is for the Waitangi Tribunal to sort out (if at all possible). Unjust wrongs will in time be compensated for, for you reap what you sow, so if you wish to retaliate using revenge or utu, it is your own fate you are promoting.
Regarding the Waitangi Tribunal and claims, it is NOT the 'Treaty' that is the real issue! And anything or any one that wants to uphold the 'Treaty' is only encouraging and repeating the past errors. The issue is closer to home than that for each person - and lies in the real touchable Wairua Tapu (Holy Spirit) attributes of respect, family, order, justness etc. Totally contrary to the mixture of politics and Christianity that has done all it can to ruin the nation's backbone.
